Guides / What it costs

How much does it cost to launch a perfume brand in India?

Quick answer

Updated 26 Sep 2026 · 8 min read

Expect ₹4–10 lakh to develop and produce a first run of 2–4 fragrances with catalogue bottles, at 1,000 units per fragrance. Custom glass adds ₹3–8 lakh in moulds and raises minimums to 5,000.

What moves the price up or down?

  1. 01

    Glass and caps

Catalogue stock vs custom moulds is the single biggest lever on both budget and minimums.

  2. 02

    Concentration

EDP at 18–22% oil costs more per unit than EDT or body mist.

  3. 03

    Volume

Unit cost falls steeply between 1,000 and 5,000 units.

  4. 04

    Naturals

Real oud, rose and sandalwood raise oil cost; accords get close for less.

  5. 05

    Print finishes

Foiling, embossing and rigid boxes add ₹10–60 a unit.

04 — Minimum quantities

1,000 units per fragrance with catalogue bottles; 5,000 with custom glass.

Questions about cost

Can I start for less than ₹4 lakh?

Yes — one fragrance in a catalogue bottle at 1,000 units can come in around ₹2 lakh. A session is the cheapest way to find out what your idea costs.

Is GST included in these figures?

No. All figures are ex-GST; fragrance products attract 18% GST.

Do I pay upfront?

Development is billed at the start; production is typically 50% on order and 50% before dispatch.

What does a reorder cost?

Only oil, packaging and filling — no development — so usually 40–60% of the first run.

Why are your minimums 1,000 units?

Below that, glass, print and set-up costs per unit rise sharply and the product rarely makes margin.
